German Minister of Economy and Energy Katherine Reiche has announced a funding plan worth 6 billion euros (approximately 7 billion US dollars) aimed at helping Germany's industrial low-carbon transformation, while also announcing the inclusion of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology research in the "German Climate Protection Program".
It is reported that the "German Climate Protection Plan" targets energy intensive industries such as chemicals, steel, cement, and glass in the country. The German government is concerned that climate targets will further reduce the global competitiveness of its industrial enterprises, so it has launched a funding program. During the 15 year funding period, the German government will provide subsidies to local enterprises transitioning to clean production methods, shielding them from the impact of energy and carbon price fluctuations. The German government will provide funding to local enterprises through bidding, prioritizing projects that require the lowest subsidy per ton of carbon dioxide emissions reduction. The funded enterprises are required to achieve binding emission reduction targets. The funded enterprises must bid for next year's low-carbon projects before December 1, 2025. The bidding process will commence in mid-2026, subject to approval of the German parliamentary budget and aid permits from other EU countries
